My work with the BSU means that I do not get sufficient time to persue my independent research interests, but many of the projects with which I am involved dovetail well with those interests.

  • Structure-based approaches to prediction of protein-protein interactions
  • Integration of biological data
  • Analysis of proteomics data
  • "Next Generation" Sequencing (really current gen now), particularly applied techniques such as ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq

Away from these core research interests, I am also interested in the process of science, particularly publishing. The current methods for publishing and assessing "impact" of science are fundamentally old-fashion (pre-web technologies forced into the shape of the internet). A revolution is required to make scientific publishing fit for purpose in the age of the web.
